PeopleForBikes and Verde represented on Colorado outdoor industry advisory group

Published October 6, 2015

DENVER (BRAIN) — The bike community has a voice in Colorado's new Office of Outdoor Recreation, a state office that was created this year. Representatives from PeopleForBikes and Verde Brand Communications (which represents several bike industry brands) are on the office's new advisory group, which was announced Monday.

The office is part of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. It was established with the goal of providing a central point of contact, advocacy, resources and support at the state level for  constituents, businesses, communities and groups that rely on the continued health of the outdoor recreation industry in Colorado. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, the industry contributes $4.2 billion in wages and salaries in Colorado.

Luis Benitez took over as director of OREC on July 1 and embarked on a three-month statewide tour, visiting outdoor recreation-based businesses, nonprofits and influencers across the state, as well as major national industry gatherings.

On his return, Benitez appointed members of  the OREC Advisory Group. The group has representation from all facets of the state's recreation industry and community, including economic development; stewardship and conservation; industry anchors; and education.

"Colorado is in a strong position to lead the outdoor recreation industry on many levels, and with the help of the advisory group, the office will not only create the collective voice for the outdoor community and industry in the state, but also craft the collaborative vision for the future of the industry in Colorado," Benitez said.

Members of the advisory group include Jenn Dice, vice president of business network at PeopleForBikes, and Kristin Carpenter-Ogden, the founder and CEO of Verde Brand Communications. Bill Gamber, the co-founder and president of Honey Stinger, also is a member of the group.
