FORT PIERCE, Fla. (BRAIN) — Friends of bicycle advocate and writer Alan Snel have started a fund raising campaign on Youcaring.com to help him with medical and living expenses following an incident last week when he was hit by a car while riding his bike.

"He was badly injured and is unable to work at the present time. He needs our help with medical and living expenses while he starts a long, but what we hope will be, a full recovery," the page reads.

According to the TampaBay.com, Snel said he was hit from behind. Police said no charges were immediately filed related to the incident.

Snel is a former newspaper reporter who later founded South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers, an advocacy group. He writes for many outlets (including Bicycle Retailer on occasion) and leads bicycle tours.
