Published May 17, 2018

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — VeloNews said its podcasts have seen explosive growth in listeners over the past year — a 162 percent growth in monthly listens from 2017 to 2018. The publisher also said the podcasts have an average listening time of over 45 minutes and an average completion rate of nearly 80 percent.

VeloNews has produced the podcasts since August 2016. They cover race news, training methods, previews of race courses, and new tech and gear. They have been downloaded a total of 2.29 million times.

The podcasts are available at velonews.com/podcast and through podcast apps.

"We saw nearly a 15 percent growth just between March and April of this year," said Spencer Powlison, the podcasts' news director and producer. "Just this spring, we've surpassed our entire 2017 Tour de France listener numbers."

Podcast titles include the VeloNews Podcast, a weekly, in-depth discussion and debate about current events in the pro peloton hosted by Fred Dreier, the editor-in-chief of VeloNews, and Powlison. The publisher also produces the Fast Talk Podcast every other week to discuss training, cycling tech, and science-driven coaching advice. It is hosted by cycling coach Trevor Connor and VeloNews' managing editor, Chris Case.

The VeloNews Tech podcast released its first episodes this spring. It is hosted by VeloNews' tech editor, Dan Cavallari.
