Kurent BMX opens in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Published July 5, 2012

BETHLEHEM, PA (BRAIN) Friday July 6 2012 6::21 AM—The BMX scene gains a new face in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with the opening Thursday of Kurent BMX.

Kurent BMX, located at 17 E. Third Street, joins the ranks of fellow retailers Homebase Skateshop and Cutters Bike Shop in the South Side business district. “There was really a need for a full BMX shop,” said owner Kyle Keck. “We didn’t have a core bike shop and I wanted to fill that gap.”

Also nearby is the Bethlehem Skateplaza, a popular skateboarding and BMX park on Steel Avenue. Currently in the midst of a four-phase expansion plan, the Skateplaza is expected to double in size. The owners of Homebase, Cutters and now Kurent BMX are working to generate support for the expansion. If fundraising allows, construction on the park could be completed by the fall.

Kreck hopes to help the BMX scene on the East Coast grow and he wants to get younger kids interested in the sport. His shop will offer such brands as Cult, FBM, Volume, Demolition and Etnies.

Kurent BMX had its soft opening Thursday, but will celebrate its grand opening Friday with an 8 p.m. viewing of the latest Deluxe BMX video, “Part Deux.”

“I’m expecting all the trail guys to come out,” said Kreck. “It’s going to be great.”
