Following the recent announcements of new hires and corporately owned and operated Mobile Bike Shop launches, velofix continues to push the conversation by bringing to the table a new discovery on pay scale models for technicians.

As Donny Perry, recently hired SVP Retail Strategy and Operations, stepped into his new role one of his top priorities was standardizing a pay scale system taking into account market specific variables. "In this effort we're aiming to build a system that will be fair, simple to understand, and never allow unconscious biases that cause pay gaps based on gender, age, ethnicity, etc. It wasn't an easy task but it was an important one for the broader velofix team," Perry remarks.

Coming out of the project, velofix corporately-owned locations are moving forward with a guaranteed package for technicians focused on four main measurables: matching standard bike retailer offerings such as access to a health benefits program, product discounts, flexible hours, etc., guaranteed hourly pay in the 80% percentile or higher compared to industry standard, 100% of tips earned are kept by technicians and lastly a monthly fitness allowance will be granted for all technicians to use towards velofix approved cycling related events.

"From our perspective, this is a great starting point. We are developing an open platform for our technicians to communicate to us what is most important to them and over time we look forward to adjusting our packages to meet their needs," Perry explains as he looks to elevate the focus on technician care.

In bringing this project to the table with the broader leadership team at velofix, Chris Guillemet, Co-founder and CEO, had no hesitation in moving forward with a pay scale plan which serves the lifestyle of technicians first and foremost.

"We set out to build a business that solves problems we face in our experiences. Our policy will always be to do so with integrity, keeping top of mind the people our brand impacts. Our approach to technician salary is no different than our company ethos - always do the right thing. We are committed to being honest and transparent as we grow with the goal to continue to move our industry forward." -Chris Guillemet
