PORTLAND, OR — North St. Bags has joined 1% for the Planet, committing to donate 1% of annual sales to support nonprofit organizations focused on sustainability.

“Living in Portland gives me incredible access to wild and natural spaces, not to mention the ability to get around without driving,” says Curtis Williams, North St.’s Founder and Designer. “It’s why I chose this community to found North St. As the company has grown over the past 10 years, we’ve constantly looked for ways to reduce our footprint and give back to our community. I’m thrilled to take the 1% pledge and make sure that’s part of every step we take in the future.”

“Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment, and only 5% of that comes from businesses,” says Kate Williams, 1% for the Planet CEO.  “The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of member businesses is doing its valuable part to increase giving and support on-the-ground outcomes. We’re excited to welcome North St. Bags to our global movement of over 2,000 businesses.”

By contributing 1% of their annual sales, over 2,000 1% for the Planet members in 45 different countries have raised over $225 million to support approved environmental nonprofits around the globe. Nonprofits are approved based on referrals, track record, and environmental focus. Thousands of nonprofits worldwide are currently approved.
