The America’s Best Bike Shop (ABBS) designation has always helped retailers elevate the customer experience in their shops. While COVID-19 has changed how that experience looks, the value of creating a welcoming environment remains paramount. Many shops have record numbers of new cyclists coming through their doors daily. Evaluating and understanding their shopping experience is still meaningful as retailers consider how to transform new customers into lifelong, loyal ones.

The NBDA also understands that retailers take pride in displaying their ABBS distinction, but that even those with years of consecutive awards may feel unprepared. This year, the ABBS program has been temporarily modified to ensure it continues to meet members’ evolving needs during this challenging time.

ABBS changes for 2020:

  • The May 31 application deadline has been extended to August 31, 2020. This will give busy specialty retailers more time to complete the application and allow shop staff more time to get comfortable with modified sales and service procedures.
  • The shopper report has been modified in light of guidelines and best practices. For example, the evaluation of customer contact points throughout the sales process takes into account COVID-19 protection needs for customers and staff, with the opportunity to earn bonus points for exceptional execution and communication of distancing practices. Many shops are facing inventory challenges and that has also been taken into account.
  • The evaluation process will conclude early enough to ensure shops will be able to display their ABBS designation later this year. Earning an ABBS designation this year will showcase a shop’s deep commitment to continuity, resilience, and excellence in serving the community, even during an unprecedented global health crisis.

Continuing this flagship program is a priority as the NBDA strives to offer the resources and education dealers need to thrive. Start your application.
