In April 2023, Quality Bicycle Products invested in approximately 100 "cobots" (collaborative robots) to help maintain its just-in-time promise of fulfillment to retailers who rely on the distributor to get the products they want, when they need them. These cobots function as self-controlled carts that automatically drive the most efficient route through the warehouse, directing employees to each item within a retailer's order before driving to the packing station. They communicate with staff in multiple languages and are mostly powered by solar panels. In assisting Q's distribution center staff with order-picking efficiency, cobots are helping the company solve challenges associated with the ongoing national labor shortage and reduce the potential for service disruptions due to workforce shortages.
