OSAKA, Japan (BRAIN)—Shimano’s 2007 net income jumped 44 percent, to about $178 million, after the components giant set an all-time sales record of nearly $1.9 billion last year.

SAN DIEGO, CA—It appears the bicycle industry shrugged off Wall Street’s woes and a year-long drumbeat of sour economic news, posting respectable 4 percent growth in wholesale revenue last year.
SHENZHEN, China—Rising raw material and energy prices have contributed to steady cost increases over the last few years, but those cost hikes will likely pale next to the price hike for the 2009 model year, especially for bikes made in China.

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Bike shipments to bike shops grew a meager 0.4 percent during the first nine months of this year and sales grew by an equally modest 2.7 percent, according to the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSA).
OSAKA, Japan (BRAIN)—Sales of Shimano’s bicycle components, led by its remodeled Deore XT, hit 112.02 billion yen ($1.008 billion) through the first three quarters of 2007, up 28.6 percent compared with the same period last year, according to the company’s third-quarter financial summary.
VAN NUYS, CA (BRAIN)—Easton-Bell Sports reported net sales for the third quarter grew 1.1 percent to $188.6 million from $186.5 million last year.

FOOTHILL RANCH, CA (BRAIN)—Oakley reported higher quarterly profit, in line with analysts' estimates.
Oakley said third-quarter net income rose 37 percent to $23.7 million, or 34 cents a share, from $17.3, or 25 cents, a year earlier. Sales increased 25.5 percent to $263.8 million.
FOOTHILL RANCH, CA (BRAIN)—Oakley saw second quarter net sales jump 29.3 percent to $263.2 million, from $203.6 million in the same quarter last year.
TORONTO, Ontario (BRAIN)—Canada’s independent dealers sold an estimated 341,000 bicycles worth about $148.5 million Canadian ($131.4 million U.S.) last year, according to projections made from the country’s first data capture program.
DUARTE, CA (BRAIN)—Dahon just announced record sales for the first half of 2007.
Unit volumes of bicycles sold grew by 27 percent to 180,000 units, and revenues increased by 36 percent compared to the period a year earlier. Both unit volume and revenue numbers represent all time highs for Dahon.
