Dean Yobbi joins BRAIN as our new managing editor

Published April 22, 2019

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Bicycle Retailer & Industry News has hired a new managing editor, Dean Yobbi, who joined the staff earlier this month.

Yobbi is a 30-year veteran of the Florida newspaper scene who was most recently at the Miami Herald where he was an editor for 16 years. He began his career as a staff writer for The Palm Beach Post, covering sports.

Yobbi's love of bikes and cycling began when he received a Schwinn Pea Picker Krate for Christmas in 1972.

Yobbi returned to cycling years later and still enjoys racing, primarily 12-hour solo events on a singlespeed, and gran fondos on his road bike. He has also held a USA Cycling coaching license and worked in bicycle retail.

"I'm thrilled to continue the restaffing of BRAIN here in Boulder with Dean's hire," said Steve Frothingham, BRAIN's editor-in-chief. "Dean brings top-level journalism experience that will help us bring the industry the kind of reporting it deserves, on our website, our magazine, and in our newsletters and podcasts. I've also confirmed that he's a full-on bike geek like the rest of us here, so I look forward to seeing where his fresh enthusiasm for all things bike brings us."

Yobbi started April 15 and contributed to the upcoming May 1 issue of the magazine.

Yobbi currently lives in Asheville, North Carolina; he will relocate next month to the Boulder headquarters of Pocket Outdoor Media, which acquired BRAIN in January. In Boulder Yobbi will work alongside Frothingham and the rest of the POM editorial crew.

Yobbi can be reached at dyobbi@bicycleretailer.com.

Besides BRAIN, POM's media titles include VeloNews, TriathleteWomen's Running, and PodiumRunner, and the book publisher VeloPress.
