Giant postpones Taiwan headquarters opening event due to virus outbreak

Published February 6, 2020

TAICHUNG, Taiwan (BRAIN) — Because of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, Giant Group has postponed a grand opening media event at its new headquarters building.

The company has not set a new date for the event, which had been scheduled for March 3, the day before the Taipei Cycle trade show opens. "It will be held another day depending on the epidemic control situation," Giant said.

The show organizers are expected to make an announcement Friday about whether it will be held or postponed. Some exhibitors have circulated a petition asking that it be canceled, and the show sent an email to registered attendees on Monday asking if they still planned to attend.

As reported Wednesday, another significant event tied to the show, the annual welcoming dinner hosted by Velo, Wellgo and Prologo, has already been canceled.

Velo's Ann Chen shared an email with BRAIN explaining the cancelation.

"It is Velo’s and Wellgo’s tradition to invite our best customers to join us at the welcome party a day before the Taipei International Cycle Show. However, the coronavirus issue has resulted in a great risk to have all our friends gathered together for many hours. Our first and foremost consideration is the health of our friends and important customers. Thus, we regret to inform you that we have to cancel this event. Although we are not used to this kind of situation, we hope to get your understanding for our decision."
