New Hartje e-bike factory expands assembly, manufacturing potential

Published March 15, 2021

ŠUMPERK, Czech Republic (BRAIN) — The Hermann Hartje KG e-bike distributorship opened a new factory in the Czech Republic to expand its assembly and manufacturing capabilities.

Hermann Hartje has been assembling e-bikes for its brands since 2017, starting with 25 employees in a rented factory. With the new 86,000-square-foot factory, Hartje will increasingly take on a manufacturing role. Hartje owns its new building on a 237,000-square-foot site that has been only partially built on.

Forty-two employees are working on two e-bike assembly lines in addition to Holland Mechanics equipment for wheel production.

"It is just getting started," said Broňa Kubíčková, managing director of the e-factory. "So far, we have only installed part of the production equipment."

Eventually, the factory is expected to produce 90,000 e-bikes per year. The Hartje Asia distributorship, which was established in 2018 and works with about 100 suppliers, also will benefit from the expansion, the company said.

"With our own location in the Czech Republic, we have created optimal conditions for e-bike production for years to come," said Hartje managing director Dirk Zwick. "The Hartje e-factory is part of our strategy to use our know-how to secure the resources for further dynamic growth."
