Wahoo app lets you ride Strava segments — inside

Published October 15, 2013

ATLANTA, GA (BRAIN) — Wahoo Fitness is now offering an iPhone app that allows riders to duplicate Strava segments on Wahoo's KICKR stationary trainers. Strava segments are sections of real roads that riders compete on via the Strava website and app and a GPS device. There are nearly 3 million segments worldwide.

The Wahoo Segments app is available now for download in the Apple App Store for $31.99.

"Using the KICKR, riders can now compete in head-to-head matchups against any rider, on any Strava segment, anywhere in the world," Wahoo said.

The app controls resistance on the KICKR to match the grade of the climbs and descents in each Strava segment. The KICKR is a rear-wheel-off trainer with a large flywheel to simulate real world riding conditions. Power is measured at the rear hub of the $1,100 trainer.

The app was developed in cooperation with Strava. "We are excited to team up with Wahoo to provide cyclists around the world with a new option for their indoor training,” said Jordan Kobert, head of business development at Strava.
