Race community veteran Dave Chauner pens cycling novel

Published March 23, 2015

PHILADELPHIA (BRAIN) — David Chauner, a former racer, race organizer and cycling journalist, has penned his first novel, and it has a cycling theme. It's called High Road, Chasing the Yellow Jersey.

Chauner's book features behind-the-scenes characters who make up the pro cycling world and the choices these characters make when caught up in the challenging environment of the Tour de France. Chauner said the story is less about what we know has happened in cycling than what could happen, given the interaction of the types of characters who are drawn to the sport.

As a cyclist, he raced internationally, medaled in the U.S. championships six times and was a member of the 1968 and 1972 Olympic teams. Since he retired from racing in 1975 he has remained actively engaged in the sport as a writer, commentator and professional event organizer. Chauner was inducted into the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame in 1998 and is currently the CEO of World Cycling League.
