GT launches 2017 BMX freestyle line with nod to genre's heritage

WILTON, Conn. (BRAIN) — GT Bicycles announced launched its all-new line of freestyle BMX bikes Saturday at 50/50 Skatepark in Staten Island, New York. The new line pays homage to GT's roots in freestyle BMX with throwback graphics and modernized parts.

GT Product Manager Ben Ward worked closely with the GT BMX Freestyle team including, Brian Kachinsky (BK), Rob Wise and Jason Phelan to design the new line.
"I'm excited to show the new line," Ward said. "Working with the team has been fun, and finding a way to recognize GT's heritage while still moving the brand forward has been a welcomed challenge."

The line includes:

  • Team Signature Series: Inspired by the freestyle team's personal rides, the series features full a chromoly frames, forks and bars; GT CNC BK elevated stem; sealed alloy 9T free coaster; and 20-inch wheels.
  • Team Comp Series: Designed to give riders the confidence they need to learn the foundations of BMX, this series includes chromoly front triangles and seatstays; sealed female front hubs; GT four-piece handlebars on the BK model; and 20-inch wheels
  • Team Series: Classic-looking and durable replicas of the freestyle trio's personal bikes. Features include chromoly front triangles; GT Pivotal seats; sealed front hub and rear cassette; and 20-inch wheels
  • Performer Series: The Performer is the oldest name in GT freestyle history. The bikes are modeled after the classic GT design from 1986, with an updated frame, fork and bar; sealed front hub on 20- and 26-inch models; and wheels sizes in 16, 18, 20 and 26 inches.
  • Slammer: A "low-maintenance, technique-driven bike," the Slammer is designed to take the abuse that comes with dialing in skills. It has an updated frame, fork and bar; GT Power Series chromoly three-piece cranks; new Topload stem; and 20-inch wheels.

Pricing on the freestyle line ranges from $280 to $580, and bikes will be available globally this fall.
