CGI launches e-commerce program, GearBuzz • Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival links with Morgul-Bismark race • ENVE introduces new clincher and tubular rim models • Five ProTeams confirmed for Tour of Utah

SAN DIEGO, CA (BRAIN) Thursday April 12 2012 11:38 AM MT— Competitor Group, Inc., owner of Velo magazine, VeloNews.com, Singletrack.com and other endurance sports titles and events, said this week it has successfully launched GearBuzz, a program that mixes e-commerce and product reviews.

"The website builds off the trusted editorial voice of CGI’s media assets and leverages the passionate participants of CGI events," the company said.

Gearbuzz was soft-launched in November.

“We found that the most popular content on our media websites centers around gear and product reviews.” said Alex Baxter, CGI's Chief Digital Officer. “Looking to diversify our digital revenue, the thought occurred to marry successful content with product sales. Retail and manufacturing partners would have an audience engaged with video and written reviews, and our users would have the opportunity to purchase these products as an exclusive or at a discount.”

“Not only are we looking to diversify revenue streams with this activity,” said Baxter, “but we are adding value to our audience through new and innovative products that dramatically change the way our industry defines digital media.”

Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival links with Morgul-Bismark race

DENVER, CO (BRAIN) Thursday April 12 2012 10:38 AM MT—Organizers of the Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival, a consumer show that features hand-made bikes, will be part of Morgul Race Weekend in Superior, Colorado, next month.

Superior, just south of Boulder, will host the weekend May 18-20. It will include a time trial on Friday, a criterium on Saturday and a circuit race held on the famous Morgul-Bismark course on Sunday. The town of Superior will host a kids bike zone, an on-course expo, and post-race festivities.

“Finding a home in Superior and partnering with Without Limits/Boulder Racing will allow us to really grow this event and make it a staple on the national cycling calendar,” said event owner Carol Johnson of Miles Ahead Events, the festival's producer.

ENVE introduces new clincher and tubular rim models

OGDEN, UT (BRAIN) Thursday April 12 2012 10:45 AM MT—ENVE is delivering its new SES 3.4 Clincher rim and wheels and will soon bring out new deep-section SES 8.9 Tubular and SES 6.7 Clincher models. A clincher version of the SES 8.9 also is scheduled to begin shipping later this year.

ENVE worked at the Mercedes GP–Petronas wind tunnel in Brackley, Northhamptonshire in the United Kingdom to develop the new wheels' aerodynamics. The aerodynamics were optimized from the start to function on a complete bike with a rider. One result is that the front and rear rims have distinctly different shapes.

In the wind tunnel ENVE worked with Simon Smart, an ex-Formula One aerodynamicist also involved with the development of the Giant Trinity and Scott Plasma 3 TT frames.

All design, prototyping, structural testing, manufacturing, and assembly of the Smart ENVE System is performed at ENVE’s new facility in Ogden, Utah.

The SES Clinchers built with DT Aerolite spokes and DT Swiss or Chris King hubs will start at $2,900 MSRP. SES Tubulars in the same configuration start at $2,700 MSRP.
