Brompton reduces bike prices in the US

Published November 7, 2016

NEW YORK CITY (BRAIN) — Brompton Bicycle has announced immediate retail price reductions for its folding bikes and related accessories, citing efficiency improvements at the brand's new factory and the strength of the U.S. dollar.

The base price for Brompton's 2017 model year bikea has been reduced from $1,250 to $1,199. Brompton's most popular configuration the M6L, a 6-speed bike with fenders, with two colors of paint, now has an MSRP of $1,499, down from an MSRP of $1,691 earlier in 2016. The company also eliminated its $98 custom color surcharge earlier this year.

"Brompton has been able to continue innovating, while making our bikes even more affordable for customers, through our ongoing focus to improve our production processes," said Katharine Horsman, general manager of North America for Brompton Bicycle. "With the launch of the new factory in West London and the Brexit economy strengthening the U.S. dollar against the British Pound, the manufacturing cost of our bikes has been reduced. These lower prices come as we launch a raft of new product updates, making our bikes even better value. We're delighted to be making our bikes more accessible, so that even more people can enjoy the sense of independence and freedom that riding a Brompton bike brings."

All Brompton bikes are still manufactured in London, with the company recently opening up a new 84,000 square foot factory that can run two assembly lines simultaneously, which the company said allows for more flexibility and agility in the manufacturing process.
