DeFeet offers special sock in honor of late employee John Berry

Published November 1, 2021

HILDEBRAN, N.C. (BRAIN) — DeFeet is celebrating the life of long-time employee John Berry with a special sock design. Sales of the socks will benefit state cycling and pedestrian advocacy group BikeWalkNC.

Berry died in a cycling accident last month. He worked at DeFeet for about 10 years. On his Facebook page, DeFeet founder Shane Cooper wrote, "He was loved by those that knew him. His deep, intellectual thoughts were mesmerizing to anyone who engaged with him. I used to love to ask him things like “What is the speed of sound?” or “Tell me about the speed of light!

"He was a walking, talking cycling encyclopedia. He was a man of perfection. He would serve coffee to anyone that asked, always perfectly heated and measured out. He just knew things."

The sock design, called the Aireator 4" John Berry Bone Shaker sock, features dancing skeletons.

"If you knew John, you would know he had a wonderful sense of humor," the company said in announcing the design. "One day he told DeFeet Chief Sockologist Shane Cooper that he wanted his skeleton to live on in a science classroom so he could jingle his bones and scare the students."

RIP John Berry black sock

The socks retail for $14.99 at defeet.com.
