Longtime Southern California retailer sells stores to Specialized

Published September 4, 2014

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (BRAIN) — A fixture in the Southern California bike retail scene for more than two decades, Sean Flynn announced this week that he has sold his two stores to Specialized. Flynn opened the original Surf City Cyclery location as a Specialized concept store in Huntington Beach in 2006. A second store opened in Costa Mesa in 2010. Flynn first started working in bike retail in 1992.

"I really never imagined I'd start my own business, but with the assistance of the retail services team at Specialized, I jumped in with both feet, started a company and built a brand, and it was awesome. Now that I'm 22 years deep into the Orange County retail bicycle market, I really want to expand my horizons again, so I decided to sell my interest to Specialized," Flynn said.

"They are a fantastic partner and they make amazing products, so I will certainly miss the business relationships I've developed. I consider many of them friends and have every intention of staying in touch with them on a personal level," Flynn added.

Flynn said he's seeking an operations development and management role of a multi-store operation or an area management role with a bike manufacturer/distributor. In the meantime, Flynn will work as a consultant with Surf City Cyclery thru October to assist with the transition to new management.
