Landry's Bicycles opening new store in Worcester, Mass.

WORCESTER, Mass. (BRAIN) — Landry's Bicycles is expanding to seven stores with a new store opening in Worcester later this month.

Longtime Landry's partners and brothers Peter and Tom Henry have purchased a free-standing building at 20 Jolma Road in the southeast corner of Worcester. The store will occupy the entire space of nearly 7,000 square feet.

The location is undergoing extensive remodeling and is expected to open by the last week in May. The store will be managed by James Ray, who has worked with Landry's for more than 10 years.

"Worcester is a great city with a long history of bicycling, including the legacy of 1899 world cycling champion Major Taylor," said Tom Henry, Landry's general manager. "We are really excited to bring Landry's brand of hospitality and service to the greater Worcester community and to help get more people riding bikes. We are looking forward to meeting people and welcoming customers into our newest store."

When the Worcester location opens, it will mark the retailer's growth from four to seven stores in the past year. Landry's has previously opened new stores in Braintree and Newton. "We've been really fortunate to have such great staff and customers to make this growth possible," Tom Henry said. "We are still very much focused on serving local-area customers in all our stores."

The Worcester store will carry Specialized and Trek, as well as Massachusetts-made bikes by Seven and Parlee Cycles. The new store will have a bike-fitting studio and capacity for up to 500 bikes on display.

"There's tremendous potential for bicycling in the Worcester area," Ray said. "We're looking to help develop road, mountain, recreational, and commuter bicycling in the area, especially with Union Station (commuter rail) only 2.5 miles away, future plans for the nearby Blackstone River Bikeway, and lots of great mountain biking trails in the area too."

Founded in 1922, Landry's Bicycles started a transition to an employee stock ownership plan in 2011.
