In the US, VanMoof claims 91% sales increase, opens Seattle store

SEATTLE (BRAIN) — The Dutch e-bike brand VanMoof has opened a new company-owned retail store in Seattle, its third location in the U.S.

VanMoof says its global sales were up 379% in the second quarter, and its U.S. sales were 91% year-to-date through June, compared to the same period in 2019. The company was founded in 2009.

In May, VanMoof announced it had received a 12.5 million euro ($13.5 million) investment from Balderton Capital and its assembly partner, SINBON Electronics. The company said the funds will support international expansion and followed the launch of its new S3 & X3 models. The new models retail for less than $2,000, a new low price point for the brand.

The company also received some unexpected global attention in June when its first television ad was banned from TV in France after authorities said the commercial discredited the automobile industry and created "a climate of anxiety.” The commercial aired in The Netherlands and Germany and has received more than 2 million views on Youtube.

The Seattle store is at 2235 8th Avenue.

The company's other U.S. locations are in San Francisco and Brooklyn. VanMoof also has stores in five European cities.
