BATAVIA, IL (BRAIN)—When All Spoked Up partner Matt Knowles first saw the building that would house his new bike shop, he knew right away his business had found a home.

BALLYCLARE, U.K. (BRAIN)—Online retailer Chain Reaction Cycles has hired an events team to oversee the its increasing presence at global races, including the Sea Otter Classic.

SEATTLE, WA (BRAIN)—REI on Thursday announced plans to open new stores in Ohio and Oregon next year, and relocate a store in North Carolina.

TUSCALOOSA, AL (BRAIN)—“I’m bringing an old school-type feeling to it,” Queen City Cycles’ Jason Capley said of his new shop in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Indeed, outside signage in the style of a 1950s gas station beckons customers, while inside the decor is highlighted by vintage jerseys, cycling caps and posters.

DETROIT, MI (BRAIN)—Bicycles are popping up in Motor City.

For the holiday shopping season, Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop has opened a pop-up—or temporary—store that will be open through Christmas Eve in the downtown Compuware Building.

ATTLEBORO, MA (BRAIN)—Just as the holiday shopping season gets into gear, Union Cycle owner Rick Desmarais found himself in the unenviable position Tuesday of possibly having to close his doors for two months.

TUCSON, AZ (BRAIN)—ProBike Tucson has had to overcome its share of obstacles on the way to opening its doors this month. An earlier lease deal fell apart, and it took partners Chris Gould and Karl Schindler the better part of a year to find their final location.
