SEATTLE (BRAIN) — Rad Power Bikes will close its New York-area Rad Retail location as part of necessary organizational changes, according to a company spokesperson.
The Brooklyn store opened in October 2022, and the spokesperson said Rad Power will provide additional information for area customers on local partners for maintenance and support options. The spokesperson declined to comment on how many employees were affected.
“The Rad Power Bikes team has worked diligently to ensure the company is in the best position possible to navigate the realities of the current market and become a sustainable, enduring business,” the spokesperson wrote in an email to BRAIN. “While we have made some difficult decisions over the last several months, it has become necessary to make organizational changes to drive further efficiency in our business. ….”
Those decisions have included four rounds of layoffs in a little over year. In April, Rad Power Bikes laid off an undisclosed number of employees. A year earlier, 100 employees were let go, and in July 2022, another 63. In December, an undisclosed number were laid off.
Rad Power Bikes announced in July it will close its European operations at the end of the year to concentrate on growing its North American market.
The remaining Rad Retail locations are in Seattle; Denver; Salt Lake City; St. Petersburg, Florida; and California stores in Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Huntington Beach, and San Diego. One Rad Retail location is in Vancouver, British Columbia.
