3T combats counterfeits

Published November 27, 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (BRAIN) — Vittoria Industries North America says it has reduced online listings of counterfeit 3T products by 95 percent in the last six months.

"3T has been working to push back on business-to-consumer and business-to-business sites selling fakes, as the vast majority are being distributed through online channels," said Vittoria Industries North America's Cait Dooley. Vittoria Industries North America distributes the Italian brand's products.

The company is working with law enforcement to try to curtail the marketing of the counterfeit products, Dooley said. 3T plans to add a hologram sticker to its products in the spring to help identify genuine products.

In a recent letter to dealers, 3T said counterfeiters are becoming more skilled in replicating products. "Usually a copy is poor and quickly spotted," the letter said. "But the fakers are getting more skilled at copying the appearance of the authentic product. They are also becoming more cunning about getting their fake product into the supply chain, usually via the internet."

The letter asked dealers to buy 3T products only from authorized distributors and to report 3T fakes to fakes@3Tcycling.com.

"We are actively gathering intelligence on the counterfeiters. We intend to find them and use all legal means to stop them and destroy their stock. It’s the only sure way," the letter concluded.
