Easton introduces carbon road/cyclocross cranks

Published July 11, 2016

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (BRAIN) — Easton Cycling is coming out with some hollow carbon fiber road/cyclocross crankarms in collaboration with sister brand Race Face.

The EC90 SL cranks use the Race Face Cinch feature, used on Race Face's Next SL mountain bike cranks and other models. The feature allows for direct-mount single chainrings or spiders for double-ring setups.  They system allows users to easily swap chainring sizes or switch between double- or single-ring setups.

The cranks are being manufactured in Canada with U.S.-sourced materials.

Easton will sell the cranksarms only or with single- or double-chainring setups. Its chainring options include narrow-wide tooth profiles for increased chain retention with single-ring setups. The chainline is optimized for 135/142mm rear hub spacing.

Available chainring sizes are 53/39, 52/36 and 50/34, with a removable spider, or direct-mount 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 or 50-tooth.

The bottom bracket, which uses a 30mm spindle, will be sold separately. Bottom bracket options will include BB86, BSA 68mm, PF30 68mm, BB30 68mm, BBright and 386Evo.

Claimed weight is 590 grams for 172.5mm arms with 52/36 chainrings, without a bottom bracket. The same arms with a 40-tooth direct-mount chainring will weigh 442 grams.

The company did not immediately release pricing or availability information.
