Fix It Sticks inventor offers new balaclava system on Kickstarter

APPLETON, Wis. (BRAIN) — Brian Davis, the developer of the Fix It Sticks multi-tool and Back Bottle waterbottle, is crowd-funding another product on Kickstarter. The Weatherneck System is a two-piece hat and face mask that Davis says offers advantages over traditional balaclava designs. The Weatherneck is designed for winter biking and other activities.

The system is currently being promoted on Kickstarter and has raised nearly $9,000 toward a $10,000 goal with 27 days left.

The Weatherneck System includes a "Mullet Hat," which covers the head, neck and ears. The hat has steel tabs sewn in the back that mate with the magnets in the system's other piece: a wrap-around facemask."

"The goal was to create a system that you could start out with and be comfortable. Then later, if you overheat, shed the facemask without missing any action. Magnets make it silent, quick, and clean, which is important to some customers like hunters and tactical teams. You can remove The Weatherneck with one hand in one second and not have to put up with that choking feeling you get with other balaclavas," Davis said.

The Weatherneck System is made in the USA of a lightweight windproof material with mesh on the front to allow airflow for breathing. It is offered as one-size-fits-most and is only available in black. Kickstarter backers are being offered a system for a $35 pledge, which is $5 less than MSRP.
