Sampson Sports moves from Denver to Glenwood Springs

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (BRAIN) — Sampson Sports has relocated from Denver to Glenwood Springs, Colo.

The component, bike and accessories brand is operating a small storefront that serves as its homebase for retail and wholesale sales, said company founder Eric Sampson.

The 1,200 square foot storefront allows customers to visit and demo bikes and get fits.

"I have a reasonable stock of frames and demo bikes in the shop, and do bike builds here, and service for our customers. We have a reasonable customer base up through Vail, and we're looking to expand it throughout the Western Slope."

Sampson is carrying a few tourist-oriented products in the store, but is making no attempt to be a full-service bike shop, he said. "We're simply trying to focus on bikes and components," he said.  Sampson also has an off-site warehouse nearby.

While Sampson's consumer-direct sales have increased in recent years, the brand continues to sell through stores as well.

"We no longer use reps, but are looking to add some more with our product line being complete for road, gravel/commute, and mountain bike," he said. "We have a very aggressive program for bikes with dealers. For components, if we run a sale and change our consumer pricing, the dealer gets an equal change in his price. For example, if we make our Stratics carbon 20 percent off, the dealer would get the same reduction."

Sampson said complete bikes make up the bulk of his business, but pedal sales have increased since he lowered prices to match U.K. e-commerce prices on Shimano pedals. He said he also has a number of new components close to introduction.

The company's new address is 819 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601.
