NORTHVALE, N.J. (BRAIN) — G. Joannou Cycle was among 10 winners nationwide in FedEx's Small Business Grant Contest.

GJC will receive a $7,500 grant and $1,000 in FedEx Office services from the program, which is designed to help small businesses grow.

G. Joannou Cycle is the oldest bicycle brand in America and remains under family ownership. The company said the FedEx grant money will allow it "to further invest in campaigns that promote fitness through cycling and spread a passion for delivering the best bicycles."

This year, the contest offered grants and services to 10 small businesses, distributing a collective prize pool of $120,500 —the largest sum since the contest's inception five years ago. A Denver business, Sword & Plough, won the contest's $25,000 grand prize. Sword & Plough works with American manufacturers who employ veterans to make wearable goods out of recycled materials from the U.S. military that would otherwise be thrown away.
