French company shows 'connected pedal' at CES

Published January 5, 2015

LAS VEGAS (BRAIN) — A French company, Connected Cycle, is introducing a pedal with various electronic features, including the ability to track its location (and presumably the location of the bike it's attached to) if stolen, as well as the bike's speed, route, incline, and calories burned. The pedal's battery is charged by its use.

The company is showing its new product at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

The flat pedal is sold as a pair, with all the electronics contained in one pedal. It will be available in several colors, contains a GPS and connects wirelessly to a smartphone app.

The company launched a product last year that was aimed at rental and shared-bike fleet operators; this year it has a new focus on selling the device to consumers. A press kit from the company did not announce pricing or distribution plans.
