Specialized recalling some commuter bikes with dynamo hub problem

Published December 30, 2013

MORGAN HILL, CA (BRAIN) — Specialized is working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall about 173 commuter bikes because of a problem with their dynamo front hubs.

The CPSC said set screws on the front hubs of the recalled bikes can loosen and stop the front wheel from turning. Specialized is asking consumers to stop using the bikes immediately and bring them to a Specialized dealer, who will supply a replacement front wheel.

The bikes affected are 2012 model Source Eleven and Source Expert Disc bicycles with Supernova Switchable Dynamo front hubs. The hubs have "www.supernova-lights.com" and one of the following model numbers printed on them: 1207, 1208, 1226, 1227, 1228, 1241, 1254, 1263, 1284 and 1344.

The CPSC said no incidents or injuries have been reported.

The bikes were sold in the United States from October 2011 to September 2013 for about $2,000 to $2,700.
