IBD sales up 8 percent in September, LTG says

BOULDER, CO (BRAIN) — Leisure Trends Group is reporting that sales through independent bike dealers were up 8 percent in September. The company, which bases its reports on a sample of retailers, said that all major product categories contributed to the growth. Average retail sales price was up 3 percent while unit sales were up 4 percent.

Compared to September 2011, road and mountain bikes each enjoyed dollar growth, up 4 percent and 12 percent, respectively. Sales of transit/fitness bikes were up 18 percent over last year. 

Apparel rebounded 13 percent jump over September 2011. Apparel accessories were up 16 and gloves were up 10 percent.

Aftermarket accessories brought in 10 percent more than last. Standout categories included electronics (+17%), eyewear (+10%), hydration (+14%) and lighting (+17%).
