VanMoof short film addresses bike theft

AMSTERDAM (BRAIN) — Dutch e-bike brand VanMoof debuts a new campaign Wednesday with a short film featuring stop-motion puppets to demonstrate its anti-theft technology.

British animator Tobias Fouracre created the one-minute ad spot, Hard Times for Super Thieves, featuring three puppets and their foiled attempts to steal a VanMoof S3 replica. The ad attempts to take a lighthearted look at the serious subject of bike theft. The characters are a master lock picker, confused by the bike's keyless locking system; an international art thief who can't outsmart the anti-theft tracking system; and a cybersecurity specialist who struggles to crack the lock code.

"Real deterrents are needed to keep your VanMoof safe," said Colin Cornwell, VanMoof creative director. "Bringing these features to life in a vivid way was the film's goal. We couldn't be happier with the way it's turned out. We love the characters, and we love the stop-motion approach. It makes for a truly unique and playful way to talk about a tricky subject."

The film launch coincides with VanMoof's offer of one year free Peace of Mind coverage when buying a VanMoof S3 or X3. The offer is available until March 31.

VanMoof released another short film last August, touting the benefits of commuting in large cities.
