Merry Sales Adds Japanese Lines

Published November 23, 2010

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA (BRAIN)—The Merry Sales Co. is now exclusive U.S. distributors for W-Base parts and bike frames and Palmy U-Locks.

W-Base is one of the best known fixed gear and BMX boutiques in Japan, according to a press release. Its Durcus1 fixed gear freestyle frames have been talked up on American fixed gear web forums and blogs for a while now, but there was no one to bring them out of Japan.

Palmy produces colorful aluminum U-Locks, something most bike shops even just a couple of years ago would have passed on as a practical security product. But some younger urban riders have been attracted by their style and light weight; they are using it in place of cable locks.

“They help differentiate us in the market. We have been steadily picking up more Japanese brands in the last few years. Bike shops and consumers still find desirable qualities and cache in Japanese-made or Japanese-designed goods,” said Jim Porter, Merry Sales president. “In the past years we’ve added Yokozuna cables, Suzue hubs, Crane Bells and Tanaka fenders. Each brand has done well for us.”
