Steve Frothingham

Steve is in his second stint at BRAIN. He was here at the beginning in 1992 while still working for a bike shop in Santa Fe, N.M. He wrote several articles for BRAIN's first issue and later joined the staff, eventually becoming managing editor and then executive editor.

After leaving BRAIN in 1997 he worked for several news organizations including The Associated Press and VeloNews before rejoining BRAIN as web editor in 2011.

He is based in Longmont, Colorado, and is an enthusiastic (and slow) road, mountain bike and cyclocross rider.

Sponsors drop Lance Armstrong

Trek, Giro, Nike, Anheuser Busch and Honey Stinger distance themselves from the banned racer, who stepped down from his foundation.

BEAVERTON, OR (BRAIN) — Lance Armstrong stepped down as chairman of the Livestrong Foundation on Wednesday, hours before several long-time sponsors severed ties with Armstrong, who has been slapped with a lifetime suspension from competition for doping.

Easton licensing Topolino technology

BETHEL, CT (BRAIN) — Easton Cycling is licensing carbon spoke intellectual property from Topolino for some new products to be introduced next year, the companies announced Tuesday. Topolino is ending sales of its bike wheels to focus on its wheelchair wheels.

LAS VEGAS, NV (BRAIN) — Thule introduced a new $250 fork-mount bike attachment at Interbike. The Sprint model includes a clamp with an automatic torque adjustment, a telescoping wheel tray for hatchback clearance and road-shock insulators.
