OTTOBRUNN, Germany (BRAIN) — Porsche announced it will develop an e-bike drive system in the next few years, collaborating with Pon Holdings' Ponooc Investment B.V.

Motors, batteries, and software will be designed by Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, located in Ottobrunn. Stuttgart-based P2 eBike GmbH — powered by Porsche will use the new drive systems to create a new generation of Porsche e-bikes.

A new management team will steer the Porsche-Ponooc partnership. Jan Becker, former CEO of Porsche Lifestyle GmbH & Co. KG, takes over as chairman of the management of Porsche eBike Performance. His P2 eBike counterpart will be Moritz Failenschmid, also the managing director at Focus Bikes.

"We see great potential for Porsche in the e-bike segment. This is why we are consistently expanding our activities in this area," said Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman of the Porsche AG executive board. "Jan Becker and Moritz Failenschmid are proven experts when it comes to setting up and developing forward-looking and customer-oriented ventures. As part of a highly skilled and motivated team, they will prove this in the two joint ventures. As is characteristic of Porsche, it's all about developing products that inspire people through intelligent design, sophisticated technology and outstanding performance."

In June, Porsche announced the acquisition of the remaining 80% of shares in German e-bike drive system Fazua GmbH, which will merge into Porsche eBike Performance. In addition to Fazua compact drive systems, Porsche eBike Performance will develop and produce "particularly powerful e-bike drive systems" under the Porsche brand name. Both product categories will be distributed to e-bike manufacturers worldwide, with the newly founded joint venture acting as a technology partner.

The drive systems will be used in Porsche e-bikes and other brands. In November, Porsche announced it was acquiring a majority interest in the Greyp e-bike brand after holding about a 10% stake since 2018.

Porsche will continue to work with its longtime partner Rotwild on its e-bike models. In March 2021, the company launched two models, the Porsche eBike Sport and the eBike Cross.

In addition, Porsche Digital GmbH offers a platform for digital services relating to cycling under the Cyklær brand. The Cyklær Bike was developed together with Fazua and Greyp.

Pon Holdings is the parent of bike brands including Cannondale, Cervelo, Santa Cruz and Gazelle. Ponooc Investment B.V. is an associated venture capital and growth financing company.
