Specialized introduces new line of youth mountain bikes with plus-sized tires

Published November 17, 2015

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BRAIN) — Specialized is introducing a new line of plus-sized youth mountain bikes, called Riprock, with four models with 24 x 2.8-inch or 20 x 2.8-inch Specialized Big Roller tires, aluminum frames and disc brakes.

“The Riprock is designed for the sons and daughters of mountain bike parents whose primary goals are to get out, have fun, and help their little shredders improve their skills and confidence,” the company said.

The models have 60mm or 70mm travel front suspension, mechanical or hydraulic brakes and lower toptubes to make standing over and getting on and off the bike easier and safer for smaller riders and extending their fit range.

The bikes have 1X drivetrains with a Shimano twist shifter to simplify shifting while offering the same gear range as bikes with front derailleurs. All the Riprock models have aluminum rims and stainless spokes.

The bikes' retail prices in the U.S. are:

  • Riprock 20 - $450
  • Riprock 24 - $500
  • Riprock Comp 24 - $750
  • Riprock Expert 24 - $,1000
The bikes are available at Specialized dealers now.
