ANAHEIM, Calif. (BRAIN) — A Patent and Trademark Office board has cleared the way for American BMX Company to register the dead trademark for "Cook Bros. Racing," the pioneering BMX and mountain bike brand. The trademark's previous owner had objected to ABC's move to take ownership of the Old School brand.

LOS ANGELES (BRAIN) — Micromobility company Bird will enter the bike-sharing market this year with a line of pedal-assist e-bikes and a Smart Bikeshare platform.

Less known nationally, four bicycle companies also have been targeted in the past year.

OSAKA, Japan (BRAIN) — Shimano's factory in Malaysia will be completely closed until at least June 14 due to an official COVID-19 mandate. Since June 1, the factory had been allowed to operate at 60% capacity.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (BRAIN) — KAV Sports, which has been selling a custom 3D-printed hockey helmet since last fall, is launching a custom 3D-printed bike helmet with a crowdfunding campaign that began Tuesday.

CHICAGO (BRAIN) — Germany-based Abus has reached an agreement to acquire Italian helmet manufacturer Maxi Studio S.R.L. Abus and Maxi Studio have worked together since 2016; Maxi Studio manufactures several of ABUS's premier helmet models.
