MALLABIA, Spain (BRAIN) — Mariano Gon has joined Orbea as American sales director, effective Wednesday, March 1.

Gon has more than 20 years of experience working in the Spanish and U.S. bicycle markets. He was most recently director of global sales at Santa Cruz Bicycles.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BRAIN) — The Specialized Foundation has opened applications for its cycling program, Riding for Focus, for middle schools (grades 6-9) throughout the U.S. for the 2017-18 academic year. The application period is open now through March 24.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (BRAIN) — MC2 Sports, a distributor founded by bike industry veteran Ming Tan, has hired Aspekt Brand Communications as its USA agency of record for Astute Italia, a handmade saddle brand.

DENVER (BRAIN) — Boa Technology, the maker of a dial-type shoe lace used on cycling shoes and many other products, has plans to give more attention to consumer brand building, marketing and education, the company said.

But the builder's show says it will not hold future events in Utah.

PORTLAND, Ore. (BRAIN) — Next month's North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Salt Lake City will go ahead as planned despite the recent controversy over land use policies in Utah. However, organizers said they will not plan future shows in the state, and would have moved this year's show if there had been time.
