PeopleForBikes will submit revisions to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's e-bike legislation.

NEW YORK (BRAIN) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposed legislation to make e-bikes legal throughout the state is promising but needs amendments, according to PeopleForBikes.

UPDATED: WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a Phase 1 trade agreement with China and said he will reduce recently imposed tariffs on some bike products from 15% to 7.5%. Trump's tariffs on most other bike-related products remain at 25%.

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection has ruled that e-bikes fall under the same category as electric motorcycles and therefore share an exclusion, granted in September, from the Trump administration's Section 301 tariffs on Chinese imports. Importers of Chinese e-bikes are now exempt from paying the 25% tariff imposed in August 2018.

ALBANY, N.Y. (BRAIN) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted last month that he would propose legislation to legalize e-bikes and e-scooters in the state. He said he would announce the legislation during his State of the State speech, which he delivered Wednesday. Instead, Cuomo, did not mention e-bikes in his speech.

OLNEY, Ill. (BRAIN) — KHS Bicycle Parts founder Karl Heinz Schaette died on Jan. 3 from oxygen deficiency at Brookstone Estates assisted living in Olney. He was 88.
