 LAS VEGAS (BRAIN) — You don’t have to wander deep into the bowels of the Mandalay Bay to find electric bikes anymore. Several brands are “mainstreaming” e-bikes at their booths this year, as they quietly add electrified models to their 2017 lineups.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (BRAIN) — Thieves broke into Raleigh's new company store here early Monday, making off with six bikes. The company and police are asking the public and nearby retailers to be on the lookout for the stolen bikes, which include electric mountain bikes retailing for up to $5,000.

MADONE, Italy (BRAIN) — Vittoria Industries has invested in Zehus, a Milan, Italy-based start up that makes the BIKE+, a rear hub that contains a motor and all associated electronics and battery to power a bike. The product creates a hybrid-type vehicle as it regenerates energy from riding to charge the battery.

CHICAGO (BRAIN) — SRAM has released a drivetrain and disc brake set specifically developed for use on electric mountain bikes.

SRAM EX1 will be available to OEMs this summer.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (BRAIN) — The industry has reached its $60,000 fundraising goal to help the California Bicycle Coalition promote its proposal for rebates of up to $1,000 for the purchase of an e-bike, and up to $500 for a conventional transportation bike.
