OSAKA, Japan (BRAIN) — Shimano is reporting a similar scenario as the rest of the industry: sales of complete bikes in North America declined last year in units, but increased in dollars thanks to a shift to more expensive models, including e-bikes.

HELSINKI (BRAIN) — Amer Sports on Thursday reported a 10 percent increase in fourth-quarter sales, to 874.2 million euros ($992 million).

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (BRAIN) — About 95 employees at ASE's facility here — the longtime headquarters for the company's Performance retail division — were laid off Wednesday as it became near certain that the chain's remaining stores will close for good by next month. The layoffs ended hopes that Performance, once the country's largest bike retail chain with 104 stores and nearly 1,700 employees, would continue to operate brick-and-mortar stores.

ANOKA, Minn. (BRAIN) — Vista Outdoor on Thursday reported a 20 percent drop in sales to $468 million for its fiscal third quarter, ended Dec. 30, due to declines in ammunition and firearms sales, hunting/shooting accessories and the company's actions sports and outdoor recreation businesses.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. (BRAIN) — Pedego, the e-bike brand with over 100 licensed U.S. stores in operation, is testing a program to sell its bikes to independent retailers through a "store-within-a-store" program.

PHILADELPHIA (BRAIN) — Part of the group that has agreed to purchase the assets of Advanced Sports Enterprises said Tuesday that they are committed to operating ASE's wholesale business, Advanced Sports Inc., and will continue selling ASI's brands including Fuji, Kestrel, SE, Breezer, Tuesday and component brand Oval Concepts.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (BRAIN) — A group of four companies called the Tiger Group submitted the winning bid to buy the assets of ASE for just over $23 million on Friday. A bankruptcy judge approved the bid; a closing is expected Tuesday.

NEW YORK (BRAIN) — American Media, LLC, best known as publisher of National Enquirer, Us Weekly and Men's Journal, has acquired the media assets comprising TEN: Publishing's Adventure Sports Network (ASN). The American Media Active Lifestyle Group will now include adventure and sports brands including Bike, Powder, Surfer, the Transworld titles, and Snowboarder.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (BRAIN) — The 2022 Cyclo-cross World Championships will be held here, Jan. 29-30, the UCI announced Friday. It will mark the second time the championships have been held in the United States, following an event in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2013.

Seeking new capital, founder John Parker says, 'Certainly we haven't made our last bike.'

DURANGO, Colo. (BRAIN) — Underground Bike Works, the mountain bike brand launched into the market last year by Yeti Cycles co-founder John Parker, has closed following the death of a key investor last summer. Parker said he is seeking new investment to reopen the company.

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Full-year numbers from the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association show a slight uptick in the overall value of bikes sold last year, but a significant decline in the numbers of bikes sold.

At last week's auction, a group led by Ideal Bike outbid Head Sports for ASE's assets by $1 million. But ASE said Head's bid was best, and charged that Ideal had sold Fuji and Kestrel bikes last month in violation of a court order.
