Issue Highlights:

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. (BRAIN) — The May 15 issue of Bicycle Retailer & Industry News includes an in-depth, 16-page look at the remodeling of Now Bicycles in St. Paul, which was chosen to participate in BRAIN's first Retail Remodel Project.

BRAIN partnered with the retail design firm 3 Dots Design, and Mercedes Ross of Merchandising Werx to oversee the remodel, which wrapped up with a visit to Now Bikes in late April. The store held its "grand reveal" party Thursday night to celebrate the opening.

Also in the May 15 issue, BRAIN looks at Trek's recall of nearly one million QR levers, and what that means for retailers. Some stores report they are fielding an overwhelming number questions from consumers about the recall.

"It made people think every bike ever sold was a recall," said Chris Kegel, owner of the Wheel & Sprocket retail chain. Kegel said he had people lined up in front of his store with their bikes, including bikes that were not Treks or did not have disc brakes.

Also in the new issue:

  • Giant launched new Momentum brand for recreational riders
  • Foreign exchange rates hurt Dorel's first quarter profits
  • Jobst Brandt remembered
  • Magura USA's relationship with Bosch shakes up strategy

The May 1 BRAIN issue also contains regular features like the State of Retail, Global Briefs, Mad Dog Unleashed and Through the Grapevine. And in Shop Talk, Patrick O'Grady's long-running retail cartoon, the Mud Stud deals with a customer who lost his bike in a pothole.
